Transfixed by this apple green agate signet ring for many reasons; the ornamental grooves that circle undisturbed about the band, the unusual green agate stone, and the icing on the cake is that this ring is hallmarked, leaving no question about the year that this ring was crafted. English hallmarking is the only guarantee you need as to the authenticity of an antique signet ring, and this ring has a complete set; the date letter for 1870, assayed in Birmingham, with the 18 carat stamp. The year 1870 marked the beginning of the industrial revolution, but this ring came in "under the wire" of the revolution, as it is clearly hand crafted by a Victorian era goldsmith in an earlier, pre-Industrial revolution manner. The ring is a size 7.5 to 7 3/4.
