Early Georgian rose diamond cluster ring set in silver with an 18K gold embossed band. This is a gorgeous example of the work of a Georgian goldsmith. The ring is baroque in design, with the deeply and beautifully carved wide band a perfect foil to the faceted diamonds. The underside of the diamond cluster is a classic Georgian closed back, polished goldwork in the shape of the flower cluster. The diamonds are set backed in silver and set in crimped collets, an early and highly secure way of setting diamonds which allows the diamonds to take center stage with no claws in sight to distract from their beauty. The diamonds are backed in silver, thought to better enhance their beauty. Eighteenth century diamonds are entirely carved by hand by 18th century lapidaries. The diamonds are natural early 19th century diamonds, and are faceted in a rose cut, the diamond cutting method that was employed during this period. Note that when considering diamonds in antique jewelry, the most important factor to evaluate is the beauty of the stones in their setting. This diamond cluster ring is simply unsurpassed. The total weight of the diamonds are .85 carats and the diamonds are H/I in color. The ring is a size 8.
